CRITERIA The criteria for certification are geared
towards those individuals who are engaged in the practice of ergonomics as their
primary work. The goals of the certification process are to ensure that the
applicants have:
the knowledge and skills necessary to work in the discipline
adequate familiarity and competence with the tools and methods used to apply
their
knowledge and skills in the field
experience with the application of the tools and feedback on their use
Education Educational requirements are a bachelor’s
degree or higher covering the following areas of knowledge:
ergonomics
ergonomic approaches to people at work
human characteristics
supporting courses
application areas
Approximately 700 lecture and laboratory hours are required in addition to 8
weeks of field work.
Experience Professional experience requirements cover
the following areas:
Preliminary Project Definition
e.g. assessing an ergonomics problem,
securing co-operation of subjects
Systematic Analysis
e.g. task analysis in the work setting, statistical
analysis of data
Participation in the Design Process
e.g. determining design
specifications based on task analysis, working in a design team
Other Competencies
e.g. demonstrating application of the breadth of
ergonomics, project management
